Task 2C Objectified

“Everything in our lives is designed.” This argument, which started out the movie, is worn by designers and revelatory to non-designers. Objectified's theme started to emerge once we were past the introduction. Almost the entire film explored the relationship between objects, the people who make them, and the people who own them.

Objectified was a very influential film because of its cast, subject, and the entire enterprise of design in general. The movie got its arguments from famous designers and critics. For instance, we watched everyone from Jonathan Ive to Hella Jogerious discussing their unique brands, and point of view.

Jonathan Ive came early in the film. He explained in detail about the uni-body aluminum construction of the new Apple laptops. Ive presented an intense relationship with his objects. This intense relationship between objects and the people who make them was a touchpoint that occur over and over again in the movie.

Besides Jonathan Ive, we watched Andrew Blauyelt, Naoto Fukusawa, Paola Antonelli, Jane Fulton Suri, Karim, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Marc Newson, and Alice Rawsthorn, in which all of them talked about designs in their own ways and unique characteristics.

Moreover, we got Rob Walker, who gave many important insights, Chris Bangle, who was very funny, Fiona Raby, and Anthony Dunne with video of their Technological Dreams Series.

Furthermore, we saw Dieter Rams, who is a very important person in design world. Rams' quote “good design is as little design as possible,” was the most important line in the movie.

Two larger design consulting firms, Smart Design, and IDEO, appeared in the film, with some interesting footage of staff designers and facilitators doing their works. Tim Brown also appeared in the film to introduce service design and their “Keep the Change” work for Bank of America. We also watched David Kelly and Bill Moggridge had conversation about transmaterialization, product-service pairings, and sustainability.

As a student designer, I learnt so many things from this video. It features the world-class industrial designers with different kind of view. Most of them stated that every object must be simple yet effective. Yet it is not easy to design a good simple product, it has to go through a deeper thinking to make it accessible to consumer.

Task 2C An Inconvenient Truth

Inconvenient Truth Al Gore represents all the evidences that represent the environment are increasingly damage that caused by human behavior. During World War 2 and the revolution of America has a very small amount of factories but now since 1990 the amount of factories are significantly increase and also the birth rate are also increase that cause the need are also increase therefore its also affect the human behavior. With Al Gore statement, he said that Global Warming are caused by human behavior and also the amount of factories that damaging the atmosphere, the significantly increase of CO2 in the atmosphere are potentially making worse the situation. The effect could be 10 or more years. Al Gore are also mention that America has the highest Carbon Dioxide Emission in the world and also potentially getting worse in 10 more years if the human is not try to change their behavior and also he said that American causing Global Warming.

In other side most of scientist said that is not only America who causing Global Warming. In fact there are also several countries that have the higher amount of Carbon Dioxide Emission such as China and India. Even most of the scientist said that Al Gore movement to reduce the amount of Global Warming is as the sources of business. Source of business means that because of this a lot of campaigns are appearing and also no profit organization are also appearing. Al Gore also mentioned that most of natural disaster and the climate change are also causes by Global Warming, but this problem is haven’t any proven from both side so all the statement is still bias. There are still a lot of pro and contra about this statement from both sides.

From Al Gore statement has an advantage for the society which as to save the world from Global Warming is absolutely correct. We have to realize the higher amount of carbon dioxide in the air also potentially causing acid rain and climate change. But the main problem is the low education on how to reduce the amount of Global warming will affect the effectiveness of Al Gore Statement.

As a designer, this movie made me realized to use less materials especially plastics. Designers’ stuff this time uses so many different fabrics or materials that aren’t eco friendly (fur and plastics), however due to the significant changes of high tech system, young designers should start to sell their products not only from quality but also environmental friendly. Maybe start a fashion line made from recycled plastic bottles then turn into clothes, to create fabrics contain of plastic but the customers will never know it
